Description

One of one

In March 2011, Chanel did something it almost never does: it handed over its own pristine stock to be painted on. For ten days, the house took over a raw garage on rue Saint-Honoré with Colette (the most influential concept store fashion has known, and Karl Lagerfeld's favorite) for a pop-up unlike anything before or since. A small circle of artists were invited to customize Chanel bags by hand, live, on site. No two alike.

On opening day, March 1st, that artist was Kevin Lyons. The American creative force behind the look of streetwear itself, from Stüssy to Nike to Girl, known the world over for his "Monster" characters. This is the bag he painted.

The foundation is Chanel's 2011 Ladybug Medium Classic Flap in black quilted lambskin: silver-and-enamel ladybugs scattered across the quilting, one perched on the CC turn-lock. Over it, Lyons worked by hand in white trailing lines looping across the front, a Monster across the back, and his signature, KYLONS, in silver. A Chanel canvas, made singular.

The pop-up never returned. Colette closed for good in 2017. What was made in those ten days is now closed history, ad this is the only one of its kind.

Authenticity Guarantee

Authenticity is the foundation everything else rests on, and we treat it that way.

A note on cards: many of our pieces arrive with their original authenticity card, and we're always glad when they do. But a card is not proof. Cards can be reproduced, mismatched, or separated rated from the piece they were meant to accompany. We never let one stand in for verification. It's a nice provenance detail, not a guarantee.

That's why we take the extra step, every time. Every piece is independently authenticated through Entrupy, a third-party authentication technology that uses AI and high-resolution imaging to compare a piece against a vast database of genuine and counterfeit examples. The result is an objective, documented decision, not one person's opinion. Some pieces arrive with Legit App certification as well; when they do, we keep both on file. But Entrupy is the constant. No piece enters the collection without it.

Every order ships with its Entrupy Certificate of Authenticity included. And if you'd like to see it before you buy, just ask; we're glad to send the certificate link ahead of purchase.

Only once a piece passes does it earn its place in the collection.

And we stand behind it. If a piece sold by The Archival Collection is ever found not to be authentic, we will make it right with a full refund. That assurance never expires.

Returns & final sale

Every piece in The Archival Collection is unique; sourced, authenticated, and offered as a single object with its own history. For this reason, all sales are final. We don't accept returns, exchanges, or cancellations once an order is placed.

We ask that you buy with intention. Before you do, we want you to feel certain.

Authenticity, guaranteed.
Every piece is authenticated before it's listed. We stand behind that fully: if a piece is ever found not to be authentic, we will make it right, including a complete refund. This is the one assurance we will always honor.

Condition, described honestly.
We photograph and describe each piece as it truly is. What you see is what arrives. If you have any questions about condition, measurements, or provenance, ask us before you purchase. We'd rather answer ten questions than have a piece go to the wrong home.

If something arrives damaged.
In the rare event a piece is damaged in transit, contact us within 48 hours of delivery with photos, and we'll work with you to resolve it.
