From Chanel's Spring 2011 collection, the Ladybug flap took the house's most serious silhouette and let it play: hand-applied ladybug appliqués scattered across the diamond quilting, a gesture so unlike Chanel that the house never repeated it. Production was small, the pieces disappeared into collections, and fifteen years later they almost never come to market. When one does, it is rarely in a condition worth having.
This one is pristine. Series 14, every ladybug present and intact, the quilting full, the hardware bright. For a novelty piece from 2011, that is close to a contradiction, and it is exactly why this example matters.
The Archival Collection holds two Ladybug flaps: this one, and the singular example hand-painted by Kevin Lyons. It is the only time we expect to write that sentence.

No piece enters the collection without it.

Only once a piece passes does it earn its place in the collection.
